Amanda McKerrow is a former American ballet dancer who rose to fame as a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre from 1982 to 1995. She was born on November 27, 1960, in Albuquerque, New Mexico and began dancing at the age of seven. McKerrow trained with the School of American Ballet before joining the American Ballet Theatre in 1980.
During her career, McKerrow was known for her elegant and expressive performances in both classical and contemporary ballet. She was praised for her interpretations of roles such as Giselle, Juliet, and Odette/Odile in Swan Lake. McKerrow was the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Princess Grace Fellowship and the Dance Magazine Award, and was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2000.
After retiring from the stage, McKerrow became a sought-after ballet teacher and coach, working with companies and schools around the world. She co-founded the McKerrow and Trofimova Ballet Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband, fellow dancer John Gardner, where they train future generations of dancers.
